I'm back! Second time lucky.

Why I’m back! Second time lucky? I had my blog all written with just a few more sentences to go, but there was a knock on the door, and when I came back everything was gone. This is why I need to remember to save my work. So let’s try again.

Firstly, I want to explain the picture on today’s blog.

Many years ago we had a dog named Nemo. My son was still young at the time. One day I went into his bedroom to find that his curtains, his bedding and the lead on his games console joystick had been cut. My son denied doing the damage and instead told me the dog had done it. Of course, I didn’t believe a word he said because the cuts were all straight lines and definitely not from a dog chewing things. Our dog was so clever he could use scissors! It’s become a family joke and we called the dog Nemo Scissor Paws from that day on.

So, where have I been and why haven’t I written any blogs?

The simple answer is, I have been out of action because I had a fractured wrist. My beautiful dogs are the culprits. They have been going to a private dog park where they are free to run off lead together with no other dogs. There is a field beside it where more sociable dogs can be together too. My two dogs were so excited to go for a run that while I had their leads around my hand as a fastened a gate behind us, they suddenly pulled my wrist. I thought nothing of it until I was in agony with it two days later. A quick trip to the Emergency Department at the local hospital revealed an avulsion fracture on my right wrist. Since I’m right handed I was unable to do a lot of things. I can highly recommend a trip to Ballynahinch, Riverside Doggy Play Park if you are looking for a secure and safe area for your dogs to run and play off lead.

My husband and I also had a lovely holiday to the Greek island of Kos. It was only two years later than we originally planned, but we’re not the only ones in that situation. Kos is beautiful and one of our trips was to see the Asclepeion, which is an ancient centre of healing and wellness based on the teachings of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. It was a huge place and it was amazing to see. I was especially interested in the sleep centre as this is where I know that hypnosis was used all those many years ago, to help the patients before they had surgery. Hippocrates was born in Kos around 430BC. I really enjoyed seeing the site and learning about what was done there.

Hypnotherapy has been around since ancient times and there is evidence of this all over the world, through many civilisations. There aren’t that many things that have stood the test of time. Of course it has changed throughout the years and is again a common practice. If you want to know more about what hypnotherapy can be used for I will talk about this in future blogs or if you have a specific question, why not message me?

Other news whilst I have been recuperating from my fractured wrist is that I was informed I have been nominated for an award for Pet Bereavement Counselling in the Pet Awards Northern Ireland for 2023. I honestly don’t care if I win, being nominated in itself is a huge honour. I do it because I want to help people get through a traumatic time in their lives. Helping them is why I do it. To be recognised for doing it is amazing.

As everyone knows I am a hypnotherapist and a pet bereavement counsellor. The bereavement counselling is traditional talking therapy but depending on the client, their needs and the situation I can offer gentle relaxation techniques to help them through the grieving process. Quite a few clients have gone on to hypnotherapy for help in other parts of their life after our talking therapy.

I am passionate about what I do, I am continually training and looking for ways to make me a better counsellor and hypnotherapist. I want to make sure my clients get the help they need.

If you would like to make an appointment please contact me as my appointments don’t show on my online calendar. I have some appointments still available in November.

If you have any questions about hypnotherapy or pet bereavement counselling please contact me and I will answer your questions.
